Latest Job Market Data Misleading?
Yes, the economy added 166,000 jobs in October, giving investors a reason to smile; however, some thought the job jump was ''too good to be true'' and watched as stock markets took a slight downward turn.
"The monthly jobs report is considered a bellwether of the nation's economic health. But Wall Street was uneasy, with stocks fluctuating throughout yesterday's session before closing slightly higher," says an article on CNNMoney.com. Other firms that experienced drops were big banks, brokerage houses, and oil companies.
Some experts even saw a "distortion in the data" reported on the job market. One survey conducted by the Labor Department showed that "fewer Americans overall were employed in October. The labor force shrank by 211,000 jobs, and 465,000 Americans said they were no longer working or seeking work."
