Due to soaring fuel costs, Delta Air Lines plans on cutting jobs and stalling hiring. Because of the fuel prices, which have recently reached $100 a barrel, Delta president Ed Bastian expects low profit margins nearing the end of the year. Fuel is expected to cost $2.60 a gallon, almost 13% higher than projected.

Among the jobs that will be cut are those not directly dealing with customers. Bastian did not specify any other "targeted" job cuts; however, he plans on doing what it takes to "reduce supply," including reducing flying and getting rid of jets. "We are pulling down domestic supply considerably," said Bastian.
