As baby boomers reach retirement age in increasing numbers, companies are seeking young talent to fill their slots, and that means college graduates. According to a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers are planning to hire 16% more graduates than they did in 2007. Companies plan on wooing new talent with signing bonuses and higher starting salaries. Chemical engineering graduates could enter the workforce at $63,749, while liberal arts graduates could start at $33,258, a 9% increase from last year.

Many companies plan on offering graduates internships which could later turn into full-time work. According to Aflac executive Audrey Boone Tillman, "It's a great job market, and [students] know it. We are in a war for talent."
