By the end of 2008, Dell plans on closing an office in Austin and cutting its workforce by 900 employees. Dell hopes to save $3 billion with these and other cuts.

According to chairman and CEO Michael Dell, "We've analyzed the business and opportunity, so we know — without question — where our priorities should be. And as we've reignited growth in our business, we're taking deliberate steps across the company to improve our competitive position."

Other sectors of Dell which may undergo cuts include finance and operations. Dell spokesman David Frink, however, says that the company will help some people find new jobs within the company and help others find them outside the company. Regarding the cuts, "We certainly recognize that the elimination of jobs is a significant event for affected employees," said Frink. Dell also plans on offering severance packages to those who will be forced to find jobs outside the company.
