Green-Collar Jobs Are the Newest Recession-Proof Jobs, Says EmploymentCrossing

Experience, Inc., a US career provider, also discovered that college students and recent grads prefer to work for more environmentally friendly companies and buy greener products. More than 81% of the grads were found to be genuinely concerned about the climate crisis and wanted to work with a green-certified company, while 79% said that they would prefer green jobs if they had to choose between two or more job offers. Some also insisted on better green products being made available, while others said that people should be given greater awareness about green issues and their roles in the environment. Ultimately, the study revealed that college grads and students have increasingly realized the importance of ''going green'' in today’s recessionary times.

''Blue-collar jobs and white-collar jobs will have to give way to green-collar jobs if the nation is to effectively face the present sluggish economy and energy crunch,'' says Harrison Barnes, CEO of EmploymentCrossing. ''Though EmploymentCrossing has posted a record number of jobs in recent weeks, we find that job seekers today are more and more interested in having an environmentally friendly job, and hence insist on working with green-certified companies.''

Regarding employment issues, the Worldwatch Institute study noted that growing automation, together with escalating prices, has triggered a steady fall in the number of jobs available in the fossil fuel industries. Meanwhile, millions of green-collar jobs are predicted to be created over the next decade, according to several institutional studies.

''The future economy will be a ‘clean-energy economy,’ where the focus will be centered on energy efficiency through the use of renewable resources and alternative fuels. The path there will not be easy, however, as massive green investment and innovative market policies need to be wedded to greenerjob opportunities that will help in reviving the present economy,'' adds Barnes.
