EmploymentCrossing Adds 28,000+ Jobs in One Week in Washington; State Unemployment Rate Climbs to 5.7%

Pasadena, CA — EmploymentCrossing recently posted 28,030 jobs in Washington in its database in one week, even as the state unemployment rate climbed to a three-and-a-half-year high of 5.7% in July. The unemployment rate in Washington matches the national unemployment rate of 5.7%. Additionally, Washington's job engine seems to have gotten stuck in first gear, as there has been no improvement in non-farm payroll figures. Estimates indicate that about 8,500 people entered the labor market last month, but only 1,800 managed to find employment. Heavy construction and civil engineering lost 400 jobs, while light construction managed to hold its ground following severe job losses in June.
