Dressing for Success: Living It and Loving It!

Getting the right kind of look, especially when you are looking for a boardroom executive job, is more important than you might think. While we are often told that looking nice is important, the truth of the matter is that we need to look more than just neat or tidy; there are many pits and pratfalls that you need to think about when you are considering how to dress for success, and you will find that simply by keeping a few things in mind you can get the job that you want and you can also get the right impression across!

If you are in a place where you would like to look at executive jobs, you already know that you need to spend a lot of time looking over your resume, networking, and of course researching your field and looking into relevant training. However, one of the very important things that you need to think about is glossed over a great deal of the time. When you are gunning for an executive job, you will find that you are told to dress nicely, but what does this really mean? Having the right look can be essential for getting the executive jobs that you want, and you will find that unless you give the matter some attention you are going to fall behind. It's more than a matter of vanity; it can actually be a matter of getting the right kind of job that you need. When you are thinking about how to dress, whether you need to ace an interview or command a room, keep a few basic facts in mind.

The first thing that you should remember is that you should always dress for the job that you want, not the job that you have. People look at clothing as an important indicator as to how they should treat you. It might sound a little bit elitist, but you may find that you are going to get a little further dressing like your boss rather than dressing like your employees. Take the time to study the dress code at the company that you would like to work at, and remember that you should always take into account how people who actually work there are dressing. If you happen to know somebody who is working there, grill the person about it. The more the information that you have, the better it is for you.

Another thing that you need to think about is the color choices that you make. For the most part, when you are thinking about dressing for executive jobs, you will find that dark colors symbolize power in the minds of most people, but you also have to make sure that you don't end up looking like a mortician! When you are looking to dress for success, start with a dark base that will give you an air of respectability and power, and also make sure that you liven it up. Think about a crisp shirt in dark jewel tones or something that will give you a slightly more advanced color palate than that which you get with the dark colors. You may be interested in earth tones, but keep in mind that they can also risk making you blend in and become insignificant.

When you are thinking about the cut and mode of your attire, remember that while some things are definitely classic and that while there are many different things that you should consider when you are looking at the clothes that are available to you, you should also consider what your options are when it comes to the latest styles. Remember that executives, in many ways, are required to have their fingers on the pulse of the world, and you will find that you can simply not do this in out of date clothing! When you are thinking about what you should wear when it comes to executive jobs, check out the men's magazines and make sure that you stop and consider what your options are going to be when it comes to looking your best and most modern as well.

In some ways, neckties for men are something of a contested ground when it comes to matching them for executive jobs. While some sources feel that they are as vital as ever and that they are still an important part of an executive's attire, you will also find that ties in some cases are considered a mark of the old guard and that they should never be sported by an up and coming executive. When you are looking to make sure that you get the right results, you should simply do what the other people at your work place are doing. Are there a lot of people who choose to go with free and unbuttoned shirt attire, or do you find that there are more that have their Windsor knots firmly in place?

For women, many of the above rules apply, but you will find that there is a little more leeway when it comes to the color choice. In many ways, women in the boardroom tend to dress to look like their male counterparts. Nonetheless, there is something to be said for standing out, especially when you will anyway if you are a lone female or one of a small number. A low stiletto heel can give you a little bit of a lift and a little more authority when it comes to height, and you may find that highlighting darker colors with bolder colors can work quite well for you.

Take some time to consider what your options are when it comes to the clothes that you are looking to wear for the executive jobs that you would like to get!
