Cerberus to get rid of its share in gunmaker in wake of CT school massacre
Private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management has announced its decision to get rid of its stake in gunmaker Freedom Group in the wake of last week’s school massacre in Connecticut.
Freedom Group is the maker of the Bushmaster AR 15 rifle that was used by the shooter in Newtown, CT.
Cerberus had bought a stake in the company in 2006. The announcement comes shortly after the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) said that it was reviewing its investment with Cerberus. CalSTRS had invested $751.4 million with the private equity firm as of March 2012.
