It may be generational, but parents raise their children to be productive citizens, part of which is building a work ethic and working hard earning their pay without feeling something is owed them just because they were born.
Once a child grows into an adult, they can choose their own way of thinking depending on their life experiences.
There must be a solid foundation built by parents as mine did, but there were things I learned along the way that have held me in good stead.
However, corporate mentality hasn't held to standards of loyalty, but has become a place where it is all about money, not people. When considering the wanton waste, economic downturns, what justifies corporate salaries for board members equaling three digit percentages more than the employees. It is all about how much they can make while watching the company they have a responsibility for and their employees go down in flames.
Yet still there are employees who will get cut back benefits, and work as hard as they ever did. This is what blue collar workers do on a daily basis, while management uses them for fodder in reaping ever higher salaries then declaring bankruptcy and denying workers the retirement they've spent years working for.
Sorry for getting on my soap box. But just read the news, I've also seen disloyalty given for years of loyalty and hard work. That's one of the reasons I retired and am now trying to build a freelancing business from home with a number of medical conditions.
