The Team:The Platts Petrochemical Analytics team is a global group of quantitative and qualitative analysts who produce global supply/demand models for olefins, aromatics and polymers. The team has analysts in Houston, London and Singapore, with each analyst expected to take a global view of the petrochemical markets. We produce quarterly, monthly and fortnightly publications, requiring an ability to work on deadlines while producing insightful analysis in a variety of markets.
The Impact:Petrochemicals continue to be a growing and profitable business globally as lower oil and natural gas prices widen margins for consumer plastics. This position will focus on those dynamics, and provide our customers valuable insight on how to position themselves in these essential derivative markets.

Develop modelling methodology to support our petrochemical products
Identify new and unique data sources, and arrange for the data collection
Digesting substantial volumes of data from multiple inputs and forming into coherent, actionable analysis
Provide original analytical thought on supply and demand figures, trade flows, government legislation or financial incentives – in short, any factor that may influence activity in these global markets
Provide macroeconomic and microeconomic analysis of demand drivers across global markets
Collaborate with our IT partners to automate data collection and managing models in the MDS system.
Develop and maintain contact with producers, traders and users in the global markets in order to source market information
Establish yourself as a subject matter expert for the global petrochemical markets, and be prepared to present at Platts events or other external conferences as a recognised expert
What We’re Looking For:
Advanced degree in economics, mathematics, statistics, chemistry, engineering or energy related field
Five years petrochemical industry or similar field experience
Knowledge of the economics of petrochemical markets, including cost of production, trading and sales strategies and supply/demand drivers
Knowledge of upstream olefin and aromatics markets and the associated downstream derivative markets
Demonstrated ability to work closely across commodity groups within Platts.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities, internally and externally
Clear, concise writing style, strong copy editing skills
Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines, and attention to detail
Possess energy, tenacity and ambition to excel in a fast-paced environment and foster that environment in new starters
Proven analytical ability and comfortable handling numbers
Understands the principles of algebra, calculus and statistics, and the ability to apply those principles in Excel and statistical programs.
Has a solid understanding of economic principles
Excellent English writing skills
Experience in commodity markets
Knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with data gathering techniques
Knowledge of statistical modelling programs such as SAS, Matlab, Stata, cube data structure, or R
