Academic Advisor Professional/Technical Programs
The candidate reports to the Prof/Tech Programs Associate Director of Advising Services, and is responsible for providing effective and efficient advising for current and prospective students enrolled in professional and technical degrees and certificates. Also advises students interested in majoring in business transfer pathways and other general transfer pathways as well. Provide effective and efficient advising to Prof/Tech students so that they may develop education plans, enroll in appropriate classes, understand college policies and procedures, utilize online services, and be able to access and use college support services. Specialize in assisting students intending to earn professional and technical degrees and certifications, such as automotive, baking, diesel, business administration, computer technology, machining, mechatronics, medical office, paralegal, welding, etc. Keep accurate and updated electronic notes on advising sessions for future reference and accountability. Represent the college in outreach activities and present information at appropriate events. Present area specific presentations and workshops to prospective and current students. Participate in group advising sessions during new student orientation and give presentations on college advising requirements. Provide supportive and appropriate advising for students struggling academically and suggest college success strategies to retain students in academic difficulty. Provide official credential evaluations for students submitting transcripts from other colleges and universities for academic degree placement and planning. Work with the Prof/Tech Associate Director to assist in the implementation of policies and procedures for advising Prof/Tech students. Assist the Prof/Tech Associate Director in creating and editing division materials and resources. Work effectively as part of the Advising Services team, as well as collaborate frequently with other campus personnel. Assist with the training of new advising staff. Perform other duties as assigned by the Prof/Tech Associate Director of Advising Services.
