DUTIES: Design and implement an effective bar passage program, for all students, including specific programming and curricula for students whose academic indicia are predictive of challenges in passing the bar exam by: Creating and maintaining an open and welcoming environment for students and providing advice and counsel to students on issues related to their academic success. Working collaboratively with faculty, the Director of the Academic Success Program, the Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to assess and address the current needs for programming and support. Working with law students, individually and in groups, to help each student achieve success on the bar examination. Working with individual students to develop and execute customized study plans and strategies for passing the bar exam. Tracking the academic progress of students, particularly at-risk students, to insure that students are receiving necessary bar passage services. Tracking students’ bar examination results to focus better the Law School’s efforts and to satisfy accreditation reporting. Teaching a supplemental bar review program or for-credit course or courses. Developing an in-house bar course and/or overseeing a bar pass course taught by an outside contractor. Maintaining a positive working relationship with entities outside the law school, including the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners as well as similar entities in other states as needed and with commercial bar preparation vendors. Developing programs and services to encourage awareness of bar exam and bar admissions requirements. Providing advice on course selection for bar preparation purposes. Working with the Director of the Academic Success Program in providing assistance to students at-risk individually and in groups, as appropriate. Hiring and supervising Teaching Assistants working in the Academic Success Program and the Bar Preparation Program. Providing general assistance about bar application completion and providing support to the Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs on questions of character and fitness. Meeting regularly with students and graduates who are preparing for the bar exam, reviewing sample bar exam essays, and providing analysis and feedback to help them improve their skills. Coordinating instruction and assessments for bar preparation course and providing feedback on student work product. Providing bar-related information to faculty members regarding topics tested and recent bar exam questions in the faculty member’s area of teaching. Being aware of bar exam developments in Massachusetts, in jurisdictions in which Northeastern students frequently sit for the bar and nationally and evaluating new developments in the delivery of bar support by law schools. Teach courses and/or workshops that provide academic support and skill development as well as bar preparation-focused courses. Participate in committees as assigned by the Dean or Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Represent the law school at and participate in outside conferences and other events organized for and/or by bar preparation or academic support professionals.
