Assistant Building Engineer - (Wed - Sat 6am - 5pm)

JOB SUMMARY

Performs preventive and predictive maintenance and corrective repair of material handling system. Working under moderate supervision, assists in troubleshooting difficult problems, lead vendors, be on call for emergencies, and handle multiple projects and timelines. Utilizes several trade skills such as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, PLC programming, and robotics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and work safety.

Maintains all equipment as required per preventive maintenance programs prescribed by manufacturer's specifications.

Maintain and troubleshoot material handling, distribution, and conveyor systems.

Maintains an energy management program to ensure measures are taken to operate all systems in the most efficient manner to keep operating costs at a minimum.

Troubleshoot PLC programs including ladder logic, components, and communications modules.

Assists with troubleshooting and repairs of installed systems to include: conveyor systems, robotics and robotic work cells, and power distribution systems.

Performs assigned day-to-day repairs, emergency and preventive maintenance. Completes maintenance and repair records as required.

Maintains the building lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.

Responds quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of four years of related experience and/or trade school training with a focus on mechanical or electrical field. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer experience in material handling and logistics systems, vendor management, and/or robotic maintenance.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

Certification preferred in one or more of the following: electronic, electrical, mechanical, access control servers, PLCs, process controls, robotics, or mechanical power transmissions. Valid Driver License may be required.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills.

OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

Uses personal computer and / or PDA for work order system, email, ESS and training. Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook. Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
