Assistant Dean for Legal Affairs and Human Resources
Duties: Legal Affairs – Providing counsel to the Dean and Board of Trustees on legal matters relevant to the law school including, contracts, torts claims, Title IX, federal and state compliance and regulatory affairs, real estate and construction, insurance, intellectual property, labor and employment, employee benefits, student affairs, academic misconduct, civil rights, and nonprofit issues; Handling various legal matters, such as contract drafting and review; Working with the Dean to coordinate activities with outside counsel; Monitoring policies and compliance with policies to ensure the law school is following relevant laws; Participating in risk-management assessment and enhancement; Participating in policy and handbook review, drafting, and revision; and Performing other duties as assigned. Human Resources: Providing senior leadership and line management for the law school’s HR operations. Responsibilities include HR policy development, administration, interpretation, and implementation. Maintaining a collaborative partnership with other offices helping with HR functions (i.e., Payroll, Business Office, etc.). Advising the Dean and other senior leadership on all HR matters including recruitment, compensation, performance management, and employee relations. Coordinating HR planning to help the law school attract and retain the best workforce talent available. Coordinating strategies and implement plans to attract faculty and staff who share a commitment to diversity. Developing and overseeing new employee orientation, mandatory training, and development programs from the point of hire (orientation) through progressive professional growth and skill maintenance. Assisting with benefit-plan management and payroll management. Leading investigations of complaints and allegations of inappropriate staff behavior. Working with the Dean and other senior leaders to develop and implement employee recognition programs, campus festivities, or HR activities to maintain and improve positive employee relations. Creates and maintain standardized metric systems related to participant training records, applicant tracking, HRIS systems, and other ad-hoc reporting. Creating and managing the department’s annual budget and other related fiscal duties. Assisting CFO to coordinate efforts of law-school business partners, including landlords, tenants and key contractors. As needed, serving on law school committees and task forces. Performing other duties as assigned.
