Assistant Director

Duties: Assisting the Director in all aspects of departmental operations and/or maintains responsibility for a major functional units within a department. Leads research planning and execution at an FAA-designated Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Test Site. Develops research strategy and procedures and assists Executive Director in developing and implementing overall strategic plan. Develops, maintains, and executes a strategic plan to obtain research funds from federal, state, and local sources. Serves as an expert in preparing scientific research grants using various federal formats and systems. Manages proposal personnel and provides technical and procedural guidance during all phases of proposal preparation. Develops and manages relationships with key agency personnel, including NASA and FAA personnel. Represents the Executive Director and local and national events and meetings. Develops UAS research projects and collaborative projects. Supervises and directs staff to complete existing research projects. Participates in developing departmental strategic plan based on unit goals. Plans budgets for unit(s) under their supervision and assists Director in planning and budgeting for department. Participates in planning, directing, and coordinating of operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives. Represents the department, division, or university on various committees. Provides leadership for department along with and in the absence of Director. Handles special projects as assigned by the Director.
