Assistant Specialist
The candidate will administer all aspects of student and community outreach programs related to issues of law, culture, history and justice for Native Hawaiian and other Indigenous communities and students. Direct all aspects of establishing and maintaining a digital and/or physical document/material archive of Hawaiian legal and historical materials. Administer LSAT preparation program, scholarship, tutoring, student summer fellowships, and other programs for Native Hawaiian and Indigenous students. Counsel students on academic and employment options and interact extensively with prospective law students, current law students, and alumni. Develop and manage panels, colloquia, conferences, and trainings on Native Hawaiian law and Indigenous topics. Research grant and funding opportunities, draft grant and other funding proposals, and administer grants and funds as appropriate. Interact with and build relationships with other colleges, schools, departments, and programs at the University of Hawai that focus on issues affecting Native Hawaiians and Indigenous peoples including to, Kuali Council, Hawai inuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge, and the Center for Pacific Island Studies. Interact with and build relationships with universities, colleges, and organizations on a national and international level that focus on legal issues affecting Indigenous peoples. Conduct scholarly research and write on Native Hawaiian and Indigenous law, legal history, and policy issues. Teach or assist in teaching courses as appropriate, including first year writing and legal practice courses and substantive and clinical courses in Native Hawaiian law and Indigenous rights. Write and produce promotional materials for Ka Huli Ao, including updating the program’s website and maintaining other media. Other duties as assigned.
