Under the direction of the Supply Chain Manager, the Senior Buyer obtains purchased components from suppliers at the lowest cost while considering quality, reliability of source, and urgency of need. Also responsible for driving continuous improvement in supply chain performance, while ensuring continuity of supply, consistency of quality and competitive pricing. Role requires proper maintenance of necessary records and files for efficient operation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports Operations by ensuring material availability to meet the production schedule
Assists in the negotiation of supplier contracts or service arrangements
Evaluates current suppliers’ ability to support continued growth in operations, recommending courses of action to mitigate risk
Develops contingency plans to prevent disruptions in operations
Monitors vendor performance (quality, cost, delivery)
Locates new sources of supply when necessary
Identifies cost savings opportunities to continually reduce overall material cost
Serves as liaison between Quality Department and suppliers

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor's degree (Business or Engineering preferred) or equivalent education and experience
Five to ten years of experience in negotiations, formulating contracts, locating sources of supply, and supporting manufacturing supply chain
Good communicator and team member
High degree of initiative and ownership
Strong organizational, negotiation, and analytical problem solving skills
ERP/MRP expertise preferred
Must be able to spend up to two hours per day in the assigned manufacturing areas
Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and tools
Experience in a discrete and/or job shop manufacturing environment
Must be a US citizen
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE, BUT NOT REQUIRED:
