The Configuration Analyst will be responsible to maintain and provide continuous improvement of the Configuration Management (CM) process, working methods and tools, including management of Configuration Items (CIs) related to applications, licenses, computer systems, networks and their configurations across multiple environments. This position will support software development lifecycle and Service Management activities such as Release, Change, Service Validation and Testing.
The Configuration Analyst has the responsibility of maintaining and driving the efficiency and effectiveness of the daily CM activities. The goal of this role is to ensure that a considered approach to risk assessment and business impact is employed when processing changes to IT services. The analyst ensures the CM process is introduced and implemented according to guidelines from leadership. They establish and maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) while performing audits on the actual source data to validate the CMDB.
Additionally, the Configuration Analyst will provide continuous communications and coordination of progress on actions, tasks and issues. They will review and edit technical documentation as requested and serve as an IT reference on CM technical writing and editing matters and serves as the CM Authority for reviewing software code deliveries and managing code libraries.
Responsibilities: Champion and promote the benefits of IT Service Management processes including Release, Change, Service Validation and Testing Day to day oversight of adherence to the CM processes, policies, and procedures Responsible for helping to drive the activities that continue to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the CM and Service Management processes Responsible to support initiatives associated with the integration of the change management process into the Release, Service Validation and Testing, CM and CMDB processes Manage the CMDB documentation and baseline configurations for all project related and CM operations level oversight and control Support project teams in defining, documenting, and changing and baselining project configuration items Review Requests For Changes (RFC) and ensure appropriate communication and approvals are reviewed within agreed to timeframes Keep all RFC records up to date in the IT Service Management toolset and review the status of all RFCs on a regular basis Plan a schedule of independent audits and perform audits on the CMDB, comparing its contents with the actual IT infrastructure Implement approved changes to CMDB structure including attributes and relationships Document comprehensive impact and change collision assessments to facilitate the approval process Knowledge of CM methodologies and ability to automate CM process Produce and distribute reports to project management and CM management on the progress of the Configuration Management effort including the status of project software builds, deployments, and environments. Research new software development and CM methodologies and technologies and analyze their application to current CM needs Acts as a consultant to internal and external areas for the purpose of training on CM tools including source control, change tracking and training on CM standards and guidelines
