Content Manager for the Securities Class Action Clearinghouse (SCAC)
Duties: Works with the Director of Research and Technology, the Associate Director of Empirical Research, and the Principal Investigator, and under the supervision of the Deputy Director of The Rock Center for Corporate Governance. Plans, defines, organizes and conducts research and analysis within the overall scope of the SCAC project. Identify, define, devise, implement, manage and evaluate the sources of information, data collection procedures and data content of the SCAC’s databases and to hire, train and supervise employees to ensure quality and completeness. Provides assistance and expertise in the area of securities class action litigation research to faculty, individual researchers and research partners. Update the databases with newly filed securities class actions, current news, and recent academic articles, and periodically update any ongoing class actions. Devise and implement data analysis processes to ensure accuracy of the SCAC. Conduct periodic audits of the data and audits of individual employee’s progress to ensure quality and completeness of the information in the databases and on the website. Recognize problem areas in the data, data entry procedures or understanding of legal concepts within those procedures and workflows and promptly address those issues. Create and assign special projects for students and research analysts to further ensure quality and completeness. Assess human capital needs. Formulate and update job descriptions as needed for research assistant positions. Hire, train and supervise student employees and research assistants. Handle and address all personnel matters related to those positions, in cooperation with the Deputy Director of the Rock Center for Corporate Governance. Facilitate meetings with the research team, the Principal Investigator, other faculty and/or research partners to discuss current and potential project objectives and goals and provide legal and research recommendations related to project activities. Develop And Maintain SCAC Relations: Research and follow trends in securities law and corporate governance, particularly with regard to securities class actions. In this regard, the Content Manager should track reports and studies of other institutions and investigators, attend lectures, seminars and other events to keep informed about securities litigation. Assess and produce, coordinate and manage relevant, standard or custom information such as summaries, statistical reports, charts, graphs, tables, presentations, policy briefings, newsletters and other materials related to the SCAC data. Work with the Principal Investigator and other academics to design research studies, identify sources for information and train research assistant(s). Work with research partners to identify data points, ensure proper data transfer and provide consultation about securities litigation. Field responses to inquiries by students, faculty, law firms, insurance firms, media, and research partners, etc. regarding information found on the SCAC website. Evaluate data requests and follow established protocols to prepare and provide data for qualified recipient. Research and Development: Define, devise and implement data collection procedures and other workflow protocols. Assist in the design of the database applications’ user interface for efficient data entry. Provide advice to the Director of Research and Technology on the impact of workflow changes in the database. Identify and define potential data variables useful for research and analysis. Review and evaluate existing data variables to determine value for current and future SCAC projects and reports. Research and reconcile data discrepancies occurring among various information systems and reports. Identify and investigate new sources of data and methods to improve data collection, analysis and reporting. Establish access to new, primary and/or secondary resources and implement use of new resources in workflow protocols.
