GENERAL PURPOSE


The primary purpose of the Data Center Systems Engineer position will be the ongoing application development of the management tools and processes used to manage inventory, reporting, auditing, support technical troubleshooting and data analysis in the Data Centers. Additionally the position will provide support to the Datacenter Department in daily operational process development between other teams, documentation and training. The Datacenter Systems Engineer will experience all day-to-day operational activities of the datacenter for the purpose of developing the management and monitoring applications essential to operation of the company colo and datacenters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Develop and maintain Linux/ MySQL/ Python/ Django/ Perl/ CSS/ JavaScript based datacenter management and monitoring applications. Interact with all members of the team to verify process adherence and quality; provide training and create policy/process documentation on an on-going basis. Manage systems according to best practices with monitoring and track/manage bug reports and feature requests. Be able to mitigate requests with conflicting priorities.




PERIPHERAL DUTIES


Provide support to auditing efforts via application data, network or off-site locations. Constantly offer and develop new ways to collect, store and logically integrate/ present data. Be able to communicate orally and in written form all technology ideas, solutions, repair procedures and process documentation. Participate on conference calls with other teams to develop synergies for monitoring and support processes. Provide backup to the regular datacenter operational processes, customer security process and support via email, tickets and phone. Continuously increase knowledge in IP networking and related technologies through offered training, environmental exposure and self learning. Participate in any other activities which are relevant to support and operation of a datacenter.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
4 year degree in computer science, information systems or 5 years relevant experience in a production internetworking, systems or application development environment.
Demonstrative application development experience in the Linux/ MySql/ Python/ Perl/ Django/ JavaScript/ CSS/ CRM/ RTG/ RRD/ Network Inventory/ SNMP/ Remedy environment are all a plus.




NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
In-depth understanding and experience in developing Linux-based management applications and network monitoring with SNMP, MySQL, Perl, Python, Django are required. Working knowledge of networks, internetworks and internet systems. Working knowledge of Cisco enterprise switches and routers operating both IOS and CATOS. Knowledge of hosting systems, DNS, MX, SMTP. Ability to use Excel, Word, and Power Point from Microsoft.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Individual must be adaptive in working in an environment with constant changing priorities. Individual must be able to self-manage multiple simultaneous projects at a time. Employee will need to work on-site at other datacenter locations on occasion for special projects.

Small hand tools, screwdrivers, cutters, crimpers; Personal computer, including word-processing, database and spreadsheet programs; calculator, telephone, copy and fax machine.
