Data Privacy Lawyer
The candidate will support North American business. Reporting to the lead counsel for Data Privacy for North America and subsequently to the Associate General Counsel (Global Data Privacy), this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced data privacy counsel to support Pearson’s business in the United States and Canada. Will be a “go-to” person for day to day legal, contractual and regulatory matters involving data privacy in North America. Also will have a major role to play in programs supporting the Pearson privacy framework. Provide guidance, support and training on North American privacy and data protection legislation and regulations. Support the North American Lines of Business in negotiating and maintaining compliance with data privacy provisions in customer contracts. Prepare consents, notifications, data privacy contract terms and website privacy policies. Advise and collaborate with other Legal Department staff to ensure that legal forms, agreements, policies and notices in North America protect company’s commercial and legal position in relation to data privacy. Collaborate with Corporate Affairs and the North American Business in responding to data privacy-related inquiries and preparing internal and external communications concerning data privacy. Supporting the development and roll out of Pearson’s international privacy framework in North America. Support the North American Business in keeping up to date with relevant, new data privacy developments. Support company’s strategy and business objectives in North America by providing counsel and guidance on data privacy, conducting data privacy training and facilitating awareness relating to data privacy. Provide guidance, advice and support with respect to data privacy provisions in vendor contracts, vendor privacy assessments and vendor training and compliance. Assess the impact of new regulations or laws on company’s existing operations and offerings; advise and collaborate with the Technology function, CISO and the Product Development teams to ensure that systems and products are aligned with corporate data protection policy and that development roadmaps foster privacy by design. Collaborate with CISO, Compliance, Public Affairs and Business teams to effectively address and manage any actual or suspected breach or compromise of the confidentiality and security of personal information. Work collaboratively with Corporate Affairs on communications. Prepare legally required notifications and engage with regulatory and government authorities, as applicable.
