IHS Transportation Consulting provides multi-modal transportation Consulting & Advisory services to public and private sector customers, particularly in the areas of freight and commodity movement. IHS Consulting also offers a range of offerings and capabilities in economic analysis and forecasting, automotive market research, energy, climate change, supply chain, safety, security, and emergency management. The IHS ECR Transportation group also produces the annual IHS TRANSEARCH© commodity flow/modal research project which is used my public sector clients for planning purposes and by transport service providers in their market strategy planning.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas: offering transportation consulting to all modes: motor carrier, rail, rail intermodal, air cargo, steamship lines
This position will report to the Transportation Consulting Managing Director and will perform as a member of a consultant team and/or as a sole contributor to projects, conducting analysis on a wide range of projects. This will require an ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with team members and across IHS's business areas. Problem-solving abilities are highly valued. This includes conceptual thinking along with an ability to delve into details, manage databases, and synthesize information. Business development experience is crucial.
General Job Duties:
*Develop and maintain relationships with existing clients while developing and broadening IHS ECR market penetration through development of new client prospects and markets *Working knowledge of motor carrier, railroad, rail intermodal, drayage, air cargo, barge/Inland Waterways, Third Party Logistics service providers, transport equipment and service leasing firms, institutions seeking transport data and advice, and/or goods movements to/from Port operations in North America. Experience and proficiency in several modes is preferred *Develop internal working relationships and participate in team endeavors while working with IHS's other business units (see www.ihs.com) *Coordinate and collaborate with staff in Transportation Consulting in support of projects in all or some of the areas identified above by following IHS ECR Transportation's Rules of Engagement analysis. *Perform as project leader when called upon, develop supporting work plans. *Assist in monitoring project work within schedule and budget through client contacts during and after project completion. *Support business development activities of product and inside sales colleagues within IHS, including identification of customers and consulting opportunities *Prepare and deliver presentations internally and externally
*Develop Target Account Program in conjunction with Consulting Vice President, Managing Director and all Team member's input. *Set goals for penetration of Target Account client list with reviews monthly at Team Meetings *Work with Managing Director and other Directors and Senior Consultants to maintain client contact and develop rapport *Create methods to identify and penetrate new market segments within the private sector transport sector *Support the Transportation Consulting Practice strategic growth by applying and identifying new capabilities and knowledge areas that are essential to meeting revenue and sales objectives. *Assist with enhancing the collaboration across IHS Consulting and its business areas to improve its competitiveness and market position. *Provide support and share knowledge with other team members to enhance capabilities and expertise. *Provide input to the Practice's marketing strategy and support the development of marketing collateral and presentations. *Participate in professional organizations and forums to present thought pieces and project results. This includes representing IHS's experience and capabilities to a wider audience. *Specifically, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform or assist preparation of Proposals and responses to Requests For Proposals from Clients
*When called upon, manage tasks and work to complete projects on time and on budget *Identify issues and challenges as they arise and present alternative solutions *Communicate verbally and in writing effectively with internal staff and with customers *Contribute as a team player, building bridges among all parts of Consulting and IHS *Work effectively according project plans, budgets and schedules *Demonstrate initiative and entrepreneurship *When called upon, mentor Associates to support their career development *Intellectual Curiosity regarding the dynamics of the transportation sector in North America is a must
Master's degree is preferred with transportation, logistics, and supply chain emphasis
