The Retirement and Income Solutions (RIS) Shared Services area has a new Front End Developer Engineer opportunity that will be instrumental in contributing to the advancement of customer experience. This role will work closely with the User Experience (UX) team, project teams, and help contribute and influence the advancement of front end experience at Principal. Additionally, we are looking for an experienced candidate who will be able to take on tech lead responsibilities (breaking down tasks, assist with design, monitor work, mentor peers, provide stakeholder updates) and have an interest in formal people leadership.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include:Develop high quality applications for our customers

Provide stewardship around system performance and release management

Assist UX designers in flushing out component design

Collaborate with architecture, technical engineers, and other roles, on application design and architecture

Help influence and contribute to the front end technology road map

Provide technical support to questions and issues from the community

Find ways to contribute to the front end focused community

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math related field or equivalent work experience (6 years of experience equates to an Associate’s degree when defining “equivalent work experience”)

We would also consider a candidate who went through an intensive Code Academy or Code School program.

4 years of Front End development experience (internship, academic, or professional)

Expertise with the following core front end technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Experience with source control management tools (i.e. Git)

Strongest candidates will have expertise in many of the “preferred” skills listed below

Additional preferred experience:

Process automation (i.e. Grunt, Gulp)

JavaScript testing (i.e. QUnit, Mocha, Jasmine)

Code quality tooling (i.e. jslint, jshint, scss-lint)

JavaScript module systems (i.e. AMD, CommonJS, RequireJS, Browserify)

CSS preprocessors (i.e. Sass, Less)

Debugging (i.e. Chrome Dev Tools)

Familiarity with front-end libraries and frameworks (i.e. Boostrap, jQuery, Backbone, Angular)

Knowledge of best practices for accessibility and application performance

Experience in server side application frameworks (i.e. JSF, .NET, Spring MVC, SailsJS)

Awareness of content management systems (i.e. Drupal, jekyll)
