General Counsel - Institutional Advancement
The candidate will perform as legal advisory for faculty, staff and/or students at University. Will be responsible for advising in the concept and interpretation of the legal system and existing laws, and recommending preventative legal strategies and actions. May supervise clerical or student assistants. Reports to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement and works closely with the Vice Chancellor and other senior Institutional Advancement (IA) management on issues involving gifts, compliance, state and federal regulations, Regents Rules, university operating policies and other matters involving gifts and policies of IA and the college Foundation. Direct and coordinate legal activities and consult with the college Office of General Counsel, university Board of Directors, and IA management regarding legal issues related to charitable giving, asset management and investment activities. Draft, review and assist in implementing operating policies, including meeting with internal staff from other departments and external experts, to ensure policies comply with laws and regulations. Advise Board and senior management on matters related to corporate governance of university Foundation. Coordinate acquisition, management and disposition of all real estate gifts, including oil and gas properties, including legal review of real estate documents and transactions, and review of due diligence summaries to assess potential risks and liabilities. Review and maintain policies related to gift acceptance, investments, endowment management, compliance and conflicts of interest.
