Role Overview:
The IT Data Analyst is responsible for the processing of a specific set of data within the organization. This role requires competency in the area of data extract, transformation and load (ETL) processes, as well as data analysis, querying and reporting.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Responsible for receiving data files from our vendors and preparing these files for load into a database (for which a job/utility has already been developed).
This includes reviewing the file structures and values, manually cleansing, manipulating, and filtering the data into the proper formats, understanding and applying proper business rules, etc.
The primary tool used will be Excel. The data will be loaded into our ODS (operational data store) and EDW (enterprise data warehouse) – both SQL Server databases.
Documentation and some querying, reporting and analysis on this same data using T-SQL may also be required.
Master the existing manual process and assist developers in automating it.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
3-5 years’ experience in IT as a Data Analyst or ETL Developer
Skills and Competencies:
Working knowledge of data processing fundamentals including entity relationship diagrams, database models, structured application design and IT infrastructure (networking and hardware)
Good understanding of data warehousing concepts, architectures, and processes
Highly skilled/experienced in using Microsoft Excel for data manipulation (as an ETL tool)
Develop ad hoc queries using T-SQL
Familiar with business intelligence, analysis and reporting tools (Microsoft BI stack, ProClarity, IBM Cognos)
Excellent written and verbal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across company and department boundaries at all levels
Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to clarify project requirements and business objectives
