The LINUX/UNIX System Administrator provides technical and operational support for the day to day operations of the LINUX and UNIX HP server infrastructure. This role is responsible for implementing systems operations efficiencies through the use of automation and configuration of infrastructure management tools, installing patches and hot fixes, maintaining server security compliance, maintaining an accurate server inventory, and managing the infrastructure operations servers which include JBOSS, Apache Web Server, Clearcase, OpenText CMS, and others. This role requires hands-on troubleshooting experience with VMware and working with virtualization technologies such as vMotion, HA, DRS, data center migration of VM images, backups, archival, and build outs. This role is also responsible to provide lead expert support on the planning and implementation of all required preventative and reactive maintenance activities, including server upgrades, patches hot fixes, and security settings (server hardening).
Develops and provides maintenance of deployment and automation packages. This may include the creation, update, and maintenance of a CMDB. Performs configuration management in a software application development and deployment environment.
Updates operations documentation, and documents installation instructions
Installs, configures, and troubleshoots operating systems and related software to ensure application servers are built and maintained to meet business service levels.
Works with other systems operations teams across the enterprise to ensure efficient and effective delivery and support of LINUX and HP UNIX (HP/UX) and other UNIX based services.
Effectively coordinates server placements, storage, and network allocation; communicates project deadlines to ensure on time project delivery as necessary; enlists assistance of appropriate personnel in other teams to resolve issues as necessary.
Performs routine capacity planning tasks for systems and services. Proactively monitors the environment. Generates reports showing the utilization of servers.
Adheres to the program's change management, configuration management, security management, and PMO processes.
Reports to project leadership and SADC Technical Architecture leadership.
