Profile

The Area Maintenance Engineer

provides technical support to refinery operations, maintenance and mechanical integrity groups.

Responsibilities may include

Assists with establishing good maintenance practices

Considers impact of costs on recommended action plans for avoiding/correcting problems during the design phase or remedial action for correcting downtime problems on installed equipment

Plans and performs engineering research, design development or manufacturing/process engineering assignments including responsibility for major subsections of projects using general engineering practices influenced by the general theme of reducing downtime

Reviews mechanical designs to ensure accuracy of design and to become familiar with new assets

Provides input to turnaround plans and supports execution of turnarounds

Develops cost estimates, procures equipment and follows construction

Completes process hazard analysis/changes authorization forms

Ensures MOC compliance

Generates designs for equipment and process unit improvement projects

Participates in assisting major project group on equipment, unit and plant requirements

Provides technical guidance to maintenance

Networks with peers internally and externally to share best practice information

Interfaces with Process Engineers, Instrument/Electrical Engineers and Designers to coordinate project support activities to meet project timeframes

Selects or approves engineering and construction contractors for performance of work within the refinery capital and non-routine expense budgets to ensure service is provided in a technically competent and cost effective manner

Manages refinery small capital project assignments

Ensures all changing government regulations and/or company policies are considered in the design, maintainability and construction of new or modified facilities for which this position is responsible

Qualifications

Basic/Required

Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

2 years engineering experience within an industrial environment

Intermediate level of working knowledge with ASME, ANSI, and API codes and standards

Ability and willingness to perform/comply, with or without a reasonable accommodation, with the following:

Ability to climb, stand, crawl, in confined space entry

Ability to maneuver through process areas containing pumps, towers, compressors, piping systems, etc.

Ability to wear refinery required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Ability to be available for on call support 24/7/365

Ability to work in outside weather conditions including cold and heat

Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Must maintain a Valid Driver’s License

Preferred

Professional Engineering License

Maintenance experience with pressure vessels, exchangers, piping, and valves

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills

Accepts ownership, is accountable and delivers on commitments

Strong technical knowledge and ability to apply practical solutions in the field

Ability to work effectively with standard computer applications that involve word processing, spreadsheets, and database

Ability to work extended shifts and respond to after-hours call outs

The Borger Refinery

is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle approximately 50 miles northeast of Amarillo. The refinery processes 148 mbpd of light and medium gravity sour crudes plus fractionates 30 mbpd of mixed natural gas liquids. The Borger Refinery produces LPG and motor fuels products for the Rocky Mountains, West Texas and Central U.S. market areas. Additionally, the Borger Refinery produces pentane and heptane solvents for specialty products applications.
