Job Description:

 

The Intellectual Property Manager works within the

Intellectual Property Department to support the delivery of a wide range of

quality legal services to internal clients globally. Under minimal supervision,

this position will provide intellectual property support to the Controls

division of the Building Technology & Solutions business, and the Distributed

Energy Storage business, two cutting-edge business sectors.  The Controls business relates to software

implementation that controls and monitors the building’s mechanical and electrical

equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and

security systems.   The Distributed

Energy Storage business relates to optimized use of a stationary power in a

building in combination with the energy grid.

 

 

Primary

Purpose:

 

As an Intellectual Property Manager, you will be

responsible for management of Patent Review Committees, managing inventor

awards, acting as intellectual property liaison to the business for the product

development process, and assisting the Director of Intellectual Property on

various projects and outside counsel management

 

Duties:

 

Management of

worldwide patent filing and prosecution activities, including arrangement of preparing

and distributing of agenda and other information for regular Patent Review

Committee meetings, take meeting minutes, and coordination of follow up

actions.Support of Patent

Review Committee relative to patent annuity decisions.Management of

outside counsel performing patent prosecution activities.Manage inventor

award process, including tracking and auditing of inventor awards, and making

of arrangements for payment with HR.Act as liaison between

the intellectual property department and the business relative the product development

processAssist in the

management of the patent database, including learning of capabilities and

training of others to be a resource to others, searching and generating of IP reports,

work to extend use of database to other businesses, and aptitude to learn new

features and capabilities of the database.Performing of

searches of online IP databases, websites, and other resources.Assist in

creation and management of IP budget, and invoice approval.Assist Director

of Intellectual Property on special projects.#external

3-5 years’ experience as patent agent or equivalent, or

7-10 years’ experience as a patent paralegalExperience in computer science or software-related

technologies is desirable but not requiredProficiency in the FoundationIP patent management system,

or dedication to becoming an expert in the systemProject management skills. Detail oriented, self-motivated and analytical.Must be able to multi-task, be flexible, and be able to

prioritize and complete projects effectively and efficiently under time

sensitive deadlines.Effective oral and written communication and organization

skills.
