We are looking for a highly detail oriented person to join our team and work with Product Development software engineers in an effort to complete the migration of databases currently being processed in SGML to XML.
The contractor position participates in the full life cycle of software development. Responsibilities include writing code (meta-data), testing, debugging, using third-party libraries, and working with TFS and other version control and configuration management systems.
The key area of focus for this position as a Senior Software Engineer is to assist in the completion of the XML Migration, which will entail creation of specific meta data logic for each remaining non-migrated database. This will require some analysis of existing SGML- processing specifications in document form and in Omnimark code.
Our ideal candidate has 5-7 years in development experience. UNIX experience is also desired.
Qualifications
Education
- Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
- Candidate must have:
- experience in designing, implementing and supporting XSLT, XPath, XQuery
- UNIX experience
Ideal candidates will have:
- UNIX experience (KSH, vi etc.)
Skills
- Candidates should possess good problem solving, data analysis, design, and testing skills.
- Candidates must also have strong interpersonal skills.
- Candidates should be self-starting and capable of working independently or in groups.
- Candidate should regularly communicate and share knowledge, including upward communication of work status (e.g. to project managers, leadership, etc)
Key Responsibilities
Technical
- Analyze business logic requirements for each database to be migrated and define an appropriate design for creating meta data logic.
- Write new meta data logic, make modifications to existing meta data, or integrate existing meta data logic in accordance with agreed upon specifications provided by others.
- This individual will work closely with product development.
- As part of the software development process you will need to unit test meta data and review all changes.
- This individual must develop software using disciplined software development processes, adhering to team/company standards and software best practice guidelines, and corporate policies.
Quality
- Delivering quality software to our Product Development team is an important function of this position. This individual will be responsible for creating and executing unit and integrations tests to ensure the software is meeting requirements.
