Network Administrator/Firewall IDS

Position requires US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a government security clearance.
The Firewall/IDS Administrator supports implementation of DMZ security in an Internet/intranet environment. Firewalls are the primary protection devices on outward facing computer environments and are integrated with IDS to ensure highly secured web, mail and data activities.
Position Responsibilities:
Assist in maintaining network services, such as Mail Protocols (SMTP), Virus and SPAM filtering, Web Connectivity (HTTP/HTTPS), File Transfer protocols (FTP), Encrypted Remote Access (VPN) Domain Name Server (DNS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and Firewall services
Install, test, and configure Firewalls,;
Assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and sniffing the DMZ using the firewall and IDS systems
Serve as network administrator including responsibility for installing, configuring, and troubleshoot LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and monitors
Create network maps;
Troubleshoot and monitor network problems; e.g., connectivity failures
Develop and implement configuration management plans for secure, complex environment
Position Requirements:
10 years of experience, Computer Technology or related field
Undergraduate College Degree – Computer Technology or related field
Must have experience with checkpoint R75.10 and desireable experience on checkpoint R65
Knowledge of and Skill in Applying:
Network, firewall, and IDS design, principles and concepts as implemented in a fault tolerant, centrally managed infrastructure;
Check Point Secure Platform Firewall;
Network topology concepts in a routing schema;
Firewall configuration, rule installation & troubleshooting, and access reporting concepts and practices; and
Intrusion Detection System concepts, and practices;
Network operation and maintenance concepts and methods;
Network architecture principles and concepts; and
Network management tools
LAN and WAN development principles and methods
Desired Skills:
Knowledge of and skill in applying
Checkpoint Secure Platform firewall
Cisco ASA 5500 series appliances
Intrusion Detections Systems such as: Cisco 6500 Series IDSM, Internet Security Systems (ISS) IDS.
ISS SiteProtector management system
Unix command line experience (ksh)
Network architecture principles and concepts; and
Network operation, performance, planning
Acquisition management policies
Configuration management concepts; and
Life cycle management concepts
Sufficient to:
Operate, monitor and maintain Nokia FW appliances remotely
Administer firewall processes
Identify the need to upgrade or enhance network component capabilities in response to network problems and deficiencies; e.g., degradation of service
Develop requirements for the acquisition of network hardware, software and services
Install and Configure Checkpoint Secure Platform firewall
Configure Cisco ASA 5500 series appliances
Configure IDS systems such as Cisco 6500 Series IDSM
Additional Requirements:
Carry out assigned tasks with a professional demeanor reflected in excellent written and oral communication skills, listening skills, patience, analytical reasoning and problem solving abilities
Ability to meet timelines, milestones, deliverables and provide timely (weekly) status updates
Communicate technical information verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical users
Provide a sustainable IT infrastructure by supplying cross training and functional documentation
Providing on-call and backup support for existing systems and functions. Required to carry a supplied cell phone/pager and work non-core hours when requested
Understand and follow established processes and procedures including Change Management, Work Tracking and Time Management.
NOTE: This position may be eligible for situational offsite work.
