Scope of Position:
Develop and deploy state of the art measurement and inspection systems using various measurement technologies, high performance computing platforms, motion systems, controls systems, and other hardware and software based tools. Work both as a team member and team leader to address a wide array of R&D and business needs in the area of measurements and inspection.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Consult with internal customers to asses and forecast project needs.
Write detailed project scope and requirements documents; develop project plans, roadmaps, and strategy documents.
Develop measurement and inspection methods and systems using a variety of technologies to solve challenging current and future R&D and production problems.
Lead brainstorming and other activities related to system engineering and measurement technologies.
Design and execute lab experiments to evaluate novel measurement technologies.
Develop complete systems, including hardware, software, and controls, for measurement and inspection purposes, ranging from experimental/proof-of-concept lab systems to robust industrial systems for product development and pilot production.
Communicate and document testing results and project progress.
Transfer new technologies to equipment and process receivers.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
Standard Hours are M-F, 8-5. flex time is supported
PhD in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Applied or Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
Required Years and Area of Experience:
5 years in a technically relevant field.
Project planning and management
Hands-on experimental work in one or more: optics, lasers, measurements, or equivalent
Experimental planning, documentation, and reporting
Systems engineering and systems integration
Skills and experience in several of the following:
Vision system development – cameras, optics, lighting, as well as imaging specific software and algorithms
Image analysis and image processing tools and techniques
Optical and laser measurements
Machine Learning and AI
Advanced imaging technologies – IR, x-ray, THz, microwave
Statistics, statistical analysis & modeling
Design of experiments (DOE) and measurement system analysis (MSA)
Laser operation, alignment, characterization
Optical setups and alignment
Motion systems and control
Acoustic / ultrasonic technology and methods
Data management, database integration
High performance computing
Surface physics/chemistry, thin films
Programming experience: VB.NET, C#, C/C , LabView, Matlab, or equivalent
Process controls, automation (PLC)
Modeling of physical phenomena
Glass science, materials science
Mechanical design (Solidworks or equivalent)
Experience leveraging external suppliers and system integrators.
Ability to work independently and as a team member, as well as the ability to lead teams
Familiarity with matrix organizations and management structure
Able to present/sell concepts to internal customers (strong presentation skills)
Able to interact effectively with customers and staff (strong interpersonal skills)
