Oracle Database Administrator
Business description:
To provide Level 2 Oracle Database support and business customer service through reactive daily Oracle database administration and support, implementation of new and cloned databases, operational maintenance, and proactive change initiatives both initiated by infrastructure and clients.
We are looking for candidates to join the Administrative Minimal Rights Program within Infrastructure Systems Operations, interfacing with various teams within the bank. This high profile, multi-year program is aimed at enhancing critical operational risk controls. This is a role for a Oracle Database Administration/Engineer, who has both operational and implementation experience, working within a fast moving highly technical environment. You will be a senior member of the team and report directly to the program manager or technical program lead.
Within the Infrastructure Systems Operations, the Global Database team group is responsible for supporting nearly 6000 Oracle, Sybase and MSSQL Servers.
DBAs are responsible for the support of both production and development servers.
The team is responsible for undertaking all Oracle related production support and project work for above areas. The environment is a mixture of Oracle versions ranging from 10g to 11g. Oracle RAC cluster, ASM and Exadata environment in place as well. Projects to transition the environment to current standards and monitoring is underway so OEM 12 experienced will be a pre-requisite.
Essential Skills
Demonstrable experience of managing high-performance, high-capacity databases in a critical production environment.
Solid Oracle 11gR1/R2 RAC experience including build, general administration, troubleshooting (Break/Fix) and performance tuning skills
Experience in Clusterware (GRID Infrastructure) - CRS management and configuration
Skilled in Oracle ASM and Dataguard administration
Expertise in SQL & Database Level performance tuning skills
Expertise in backup and recovery and migration using RMAN, datapump and export/import.
Experience in Oracle Exadata, Golden Gate replication a plus
Experience on Solaris, Linux and AIX OS including strong shell scripting skills.
Willingness to work in 24*7 Global support model.
Aid development teams for analyzing issues.
Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic & analytical skills.
Excellent communication & coordination skills are required.
Strong initiative and sense of ownership.
Expert knowledge of database scripting and automation technology
Excellent written and verbal communications
Experience working with offshore vendors
Builds positive working relationships, works collaboratively with other team members, and is a team player.
Desired skills:
Competent in Change/Release Management ( ITIL based preferably ITIL Foundation Certified)
Experience in maintenance and management of databases using Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control.
Expertise in complex database upgrades to 11G
Experience required:
3-4 years of experience in Oracle databases on UNIX platforms, preferably in the financial sector
4 year degree or equivalent industry experience
Mastery of English
Responsibilities:
Daily reactive Incident and Service Request support for Oracle Databases globally via hotline and ticketing systems. Perform triage, initial troubleshooting, and escalation.
Proactively support the ongoing maintenance and optimization of preventative maintenance activities designed to increase the stability of the environment and maintain high levels of stability.
Interfaces proactively with other Infrastructure support teams such as UNIX, WINTEL, Network, IT Facilities, Backup, Storage, Monitoring, Security etc.
Provide 2nd level support to Oracle vendor teams, including training
Develop and maintain procedures & policies around all aspects of server support & implementation, including evaluation of existing practices, documentation, and holding training sessions.
Assist with implementation of Oracle databases, including bank-standard build and QA process.
Support application development teams with Version upgrades, application releases, and cloning / creating copies of existing databases for testing and development purpose.
Support day to day maintenance and operation of databases including table space maintenance, providing expertise and recommendation on performance tuning, and consultancy requests where application development teams require Oracle DBA expertise.
Work with other global Oracle team members to provide follow-the-sun support and drive global consistency.
Provide 2nd level support to application support teams managing Oracle based applications
Provide on-going assistance to other service providers with new implementations and support issues
Participate in and contribute to strategic bank initiatives & programs, including but not limited to Oracle patching security initiatives, integration of mergers and acquisitions, and optimization of our production server and database estate.
Shift
Weekday and weekend shifts range from 7am 3pm to 12pm - 8pm (typically with an ~15-30 minute shift handover requirement) depending on role and function, with oncall coverage 3-5 weeks per year, intermittent off-hours work is required both planned and unplanned.
