Profile

This position supports the Chicopee facility under the direction of the Engineering Manager. The Project Engineer is primarily responsible for leading capital and process improvement projects that support manufacturing operations.

What Engineering Program/Project Management contributes to Cardinal Health

Program/Project Management is responsible for managing the execution of programs and/or projects consisting of single or multiple projects and/or programs. May manage project and/or program managers within assigned program and/or project. Works within the constraints of budget, schedule and scope while managing risk and ensuring adherence to established processes and methodologies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Engineering, Math or Science preferred

A minimum of 4 years related work experience required

Ability to train and coach others from technical expertise

Strong project management capabilities with experience in medical process validations or equivalent

Team player able to effectively interact with all disciplines

Self-starter able to interpret critical aspects of information received from multiple sources

Ability to work flexible hours as project needs dictate

Occasional travel (less than 10%) to other manufacturing locations or training facilities

May act as a mentor to less experienced colleagues

Accountabilities

Utilize engineering expertise to develop clear, concise conceptions, methods, layouts, and documentation to determine project feasibility

Utilize Gantt charts to maintain control of project timelines and report progress status on a regular basis to Engineering Manager and others as directed. Responsible for closing projects in a timely manner

Management and integration of new products or processes into the Chicopee facility

Responsible for seeing that all tasks are performed in a manner that complies with the Chicopee Quality Management System, the Chicopee Environmental Management System, and all governing regulatory bodies.

Work closely with all functional areas to ensure requirements and expectations are met

Work with Designers, Machinists, Technicians, Operations, and Contractors to bring projects from the design stage to production and complete the project within time and budgetary constraints

Develop standard operating procedures, preventative maintenance schedules, spare parts lists, and ensure that all new and existing equipment is properly guarded and meets OSHA requirements and operators have been properly trained

Keep current with technology/engineering advances to deliver best available technology to the project

Maintain clear and concise records, documentation and drawing database on all assigned projects

Develop operating manuals, as necessary, on all new projects to be utilized by Operators, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel

As a salaried representative of the Management Team you are expected to be a role model in exhibiting the behaviors and fostering the development of Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Accountability

Acts as a coach/mentor to Associate Project Engineers and Technicians

Interfaces with R&D, Customers, Marketing, and Suppliers to discover and trial new raw materials or production processes with the intent of improving performance or quality, reducing cost, and improving uptime

Ensure compatibility between process capability and finished product specifications

Trouble shooting of manufacturing processes

Six Sigma Projects (Process Maps, Cause & Effects Matrix, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Statistical Process Control, and Statistical Analysis using Minitab)

Lean Manufacturing Projects (Kaizen Events, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Waste Reduction, Work Reduction)

Safety Projects

Eliminate potential ergonomic problems

Identify and understand safety concerns and ensure they are not introduced to the production floor

Validation Projects

IQ, OQ, PQ, and Test Method validation protocols and reports

General understanding of ISO and FDA requirements and sample plans

Root Cause Analysis to determine potential solutions based on risk, cost, and time

Writes and Executes Trials to test new materials and new concepts

Technical resource to Supervisors, Operators, and Technicians in regards to machines, process, test equipment, and general manufacturing techniques

Identify machine/equipment improvements and latest market technology

Write Capital Expenditure Request to obtain capital for projects

Writes and/or updates all documentation used on the production floor in the manufacturing of product, including process SPIs, general SPIs, and lab SPIs

Other duties as assigned
