DBA Sr. Advisor
Plans and coordinates the administration of PostgreSQL databases to ensure accurate, appropriate, and effective use of data, including database definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, and operational guidelines. Performs quality control audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper usage of data in tables and various support tools, such as database dictionaries. Reviews database design and integration of systems, and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. May establish and maintain security and integrity controls. Provides appropriate consulting, interfacing, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization. Prepares and/or reviews activity, progress, and performance reports.
A qualified candidate will for this senior DBA role demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform all of the basic database management skills of data administration, web connectivity, physical structure, SQL and SQL applications, and overall architecture and database analysis. Plans and configures the physical database environment. Evaluates and recommends the purchase and utilization of technologies such as DMBS/s, servers, extract and conditioning tools, metadata management, security tools and archival and recovery tools and data access. Develops project plans for implementing database environments. Provides input to technical projects and oversees the tactical aspects of all database related tasks. Diagnoses, resolves and implements preventive measures to prevent problems for availability, recover-ability and performance of all supported database environments. Recommends and oversees implementation of database level configuration changes to optimize performance. Ensures maintenance of physical integrity of all production databases.
Requirements:
8 to 10 years of Experience in a DBA role supporting a high-availability environment.
BS degree in Information Technology related field or equivalent working experience
PostgreSQL v8.4 Database Management experience
Strong pgPL/SQL Skills
Ability to optimize application SQL performance within the PostgreSQL database environment
Database Creation, Cloning/Refresh Experience
Security administration, Privileges/Groups/Users Management
Familiarity with RHEL operating system
Familiarity with RHEL based server clustering.
Strong Linux Shell scripting skills
Familiarity with Patching procedures
Backup and Recovery planning and implementation experience
Upgrading database/application
Disaster Recovery
Provide support of applications by understanding the requirements.
Excellent problem-solving/analytical skills. Strong communication skills
A desire for continuous improvement, stay informed about current and emerging technologies.
Excellent understanding of SDLC
Able to work as part of a team as well as individually tasked.
Used to work in an structured environment including ticketing system, maintenance windows, etc.
Successful candidate will be part of an on-call rotation.
MySQL and Oracle working experience is a plus
