Senior Data Scientist

This individual will support and advise teams utilizing big data across multiple health care environments to deliver value to different Optum businesses. The work is complex in nature and crosses a wide range of business problems that utilize clinical, claims, pharmacy and other data sources. Primary Responsibilities: Provide cutting edge data science thought leadership to a growing team that is developing new insights for Optum Advance predictive modeling practices through pattern recognition, data manipulation, and analysis Demonstrate excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms such as XGBoost, Random Forest, and SVM Work with resource leader to develop project reviews process, establish guidelines for code reviews, and ensure the correct models are used, and correct conclusions drawn from work Use excellent communication skills to effectively explain complex concepts to business counterparts Provide oversight for multiple projects at the same time, helping the team meet deadlines as agreed with our development and project partners Work effectively on multidisciplinary teams Create innovative solutions that solve the ever-changing needs of the health care system Document findings, including assumptions and validation work in a clear structured manner Use strong business, problem solving skills and programming knowledge to quickly cycle hypotheses through discovery Utilize data from multiple data sources to support solution features, train and drive test models Required Qualifications: Degree in quantitative field, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics or similar 5 years of Predictive Analytics experience 5 years of data analytics experience 3 years of Machine Learning/Data Science programming experience with Python (preferred), or R, SAS, Scala, Java or similar stack Good probability and statistics skills as they relate to machine learning Good scripting and programming skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience with big data technologies like Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Jupyter, H2o and others Experience with Amazon Web Services or equivalent product in the machine learning space Experience incorporating Machine Learning & Al concepts into solution development in a professional capacity Experience with data visualization tools Experience managing, mentoring or leading others Technology Careers with Optum.
