A Day in the Life
The Senior Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) Specialist will be a critical leader on the HEOR team. The Senior Specialist is responsible for providing analytical and methodological expertise to support 1) the development of global health economic and outcomes evidence for Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure products, and 2) the development and implementation of strategic reimbursement and economic value initiatives for new and commercialized Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure products and therapies on a global basis. While this position will be called upon to support all therapies, focus and support of the Patient Monitoring and Diagnostic business will be required.
•Support the development and execution of global reimbursement and economic value strategies for integration into the development, sales and marketing of the portfolio of cardiac rhythm and heart failure devices and services. Particularly attention and focus will be on strategies fulfilled through outcomes research, not primary clinical research.
•Provide input on evidence gaps and support for planning post-clinical activities, educational activities, health economic and outcomes research activities and /or other support needs to fill gaps.
•Envision, develop and execute other economic evidence generation activities such as cost-effectiveness modeling, budget impact modeling, discrete event simulation and meta-analysis.
•Ensure relevant data points are integrated into clinical trials to support future evidence-based economic value messages.
•Develop therapeutic and device operation knowledge and apply this knowledge to evidence needs.
•Extraction and analysis of administrative health care and claims data to help understand health services utilization, treatment patterns, site of service, payer mix and costs associated with the use of cardiac rhythm and heart failure products, services or patients indicated for such therapies. Analysis may be used to support evidence development, clinical trial design, and reimbursement market trends.
•Facilitate meetings with health care professionals, reimbursement and economic consultants, and senior internal personnel as required to support strategic development or tactical implementation.
•Act as a member (core or extended) of clinical study and product development teams to insure appropriate inclusion of economic stakeholder needs.
•Partner with regional economic managers group on critical “hand-offs” which includes translation of evidence into economic stakeholder messages and development of economic tools and customer resources.
•Participate in the annual operating and strategic planning processes to represent the interest of the assigned devices and services in a prioritized manner based on greatest potential contribution to business threat and potential growth.
Must Have: Minimum Qualifications
•5 years training and experience in health economics, health policy, epidemiology or health services research
•Experience in data analysis with a focus on health economic and outcomes research
•Project management experience; demonstrated consultative mindset
•Experience in healthcare industry (medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, insurance, hospital, health system)
Nice to Have
•PhD, MPH or MHA
•Postgraduate training in health economics, health policy, health services research, healthcare administration or similar
•Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical industry
•Experience in health insurance or health care delivery industry
•Experience in strategic reimbursement planning globally
•Experience in diagnostic technologies
•Experience in cardiovascular disease
•Proven excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills
•Proven relationship-building and maintaining skills with internal and external stakeholders including physician customers, hospital administrators or payers
•Proven ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed organization
•Broad perspective and understanding of business issues related to medical devices and/or pharmaceuticals
•High productivity level as evidenced by ability to effectively prioritize
•Strong track record of good judgment
•Advanced programming skills (SAS, SPSS, R, etc.)
