Reporting to the Sr Director, Parcel & Airfreight Operations – the Sr. Manager, Parcel Network Design & Optimization, is responsible for the future strategic design of our parcel network to enable innovative delivery solutions to support the growth of ecommerce and increasing demand for speed solutions. This role will be the direct point of contact for the strategy and development teams within our Global Supply Chain as well as within our brands. This resource will work closely with Supply Chain Strategy, Customer Experience, and Supply Chain Analytics teams to supply practical and operational inputs required to support the development of our brand and ecommerce strategies. This resource will also be responsible for the project management and execution of new implementations, evolving service level initiatives, and operationalizing any new service(s) for hand-off to other leaders within Global Parcel Operations for future day-to-day management. This role will interact with external transportation service providers as well as key internal stakeholders, and integrates with transportation operational business leaders on projects, contract negotiations, and business continuity efforts to help support optimal operating plans/ budgets. This resource should be well versed in Seamless Inventory/ Omni-channel core principles to support the dynamic needs of the online consumer, staying connected to external trends and evolving transportation solutions. This leader is required to leverage professional partnerships (internal & external) to stay informed of key industry best practices and benchmarking, and will be responsible for designing the future parcel network for Gap Inc. globally.


Project Manage all Global Parcel initiatives and deliver strategic projects inclusive of cross channel and seamless inventory projects

Engineer omni-channel carrier solutions to best leverage our ship-from-store network and transportation capabilities

Design and implement parcel carrier solutions, shipping policies, and procedures to drive ecommerce initiatives

Maintain currency on parcel shipping processes, policies, networks, sourcing points, and carrier base. Monitor industry trends and shipping best practices in all global markets, and educate leadership team on network opportunities.

Implement a strategic courier network and architect a same day delivery model leveraging that capability to deliver niche customer offerings in an omni-channel network

Engineer an optimal returns network leveraging our store and DC network, transportation carriers, and external vendors to maximize merchandise margin

Develop network plans with effective parcel shipping solutions that support strategic initiatives that drive cost, service, and process improvement initiatives

Support initiatives with in-depth knowledge of parcel shipping service levels and pricing offerings

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with parcel transportation network of companies

Lead interface for Parcel Operations with Supply Chain Strategy, Supply Chain Analytics, and Brand Operations teams accountable for the development of parcel transportation initiatives

Leads continuous process improvement initiatives supporting procurement, vendor relationship management, and transportation market/industry awareness

Educated in transportation industry/ regulatory issues and external network benchmarking for Global Transportation

Aligns key Global Supply Chain initiatives and priorities with Global Parcel initiatives based on priorities, current business climate, and direction from the management team

Develop risk management programs to ensure business continuity in emergency scenarios

Ascertain industry/logistics best practices to identify new and/or unique programs to differentiate customer from the marketplace and drive customer satisfaction

Ensure Gap Inc. policies are defined in accordance with federal transportation regulations


Knowledge, skills & abilities:

Strong knowledge of parcel transportation models/ networks and evolving service levels

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain current working relationships and networking with large carriers and Logistics Service providers

Ability to carry out responsibilities in stressful work environment punctuated by heavy shipping volume or project load

Logical, analytical, organized thinker willing to question the status quo

A demonstrated capacity to work well within team environments, including experience in managing team dynamics and exerting influence without the benefit of possessing direct authority

Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. Must be able to communicate complex issues and concepts simply in order to gain understanding, buy-in and support across all organizational levels.

Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and drive for results through cross-functional and provider/carrier teams at all levels

Extensive knowledge of project management best practices and tools, and ability to effectively manage large strategic projects with minimal supervision

Demonstrated ability to implement large-scale change and proven track record in managing complex projects

Ability to develop and deliver executive level presentations

Ability to think objectively and interpret meaningful themes from quantitative and qualitative methods

Knowledgeable on the regulatory and legal aspects of rates and economics of transportation [parcel] services, costs, operations, and negotiations

Application Proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite - Vizio, Project, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook

Ability to develop talent through goal setting, coaching, and performance feedback

Well versed in Seamless Inventory/ Omni-Channel concepts

Knowledge of Supply Chain, Transportation Management (TMS) and Warehouse Management (WMS) processes and systems

Experience in developing and analyzing transportation models and developing strategic plans

Experience with international shipping and customs trade compliance to support global parcel needs

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Proven experience leading people and developing self, direct report(s) and others

Minimum educational level:

BA/BS Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or related field or equivalent industry experience

MBA, MSIE, CSMP or other relevant advanced degree preferred

Minimum experience:

5 Years Transportation and Logistics Experience

5 Years Parcel Shipping Experience including Network Design

3 years Project Management Experience

3 years professional experience leading others

Logistics systems user experience (TMS, WMS, Freight Optimization, Load Planning) preferred

Previous retail experience strongly preferred

Understanding of general transportation regulatory concepts/ requirements

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to travel anticipated 20% annually [as the business dictates]

Required to support/ work non-traditional hours – as the retail business dictates - to support 24x7 operations

Domiciled in Columbus, OH or Erlanger, KY
