Senior Paralegal
Candidate will provide support to Health System Legal Office’s (HSLO) attorneys and work with an existing lead Paralegal, primarily in a wide range of litigation-related matters. This will include assisting on litigation functions related to medical malpractice matters and other litigation matters, responding to subpoenas, government investigations, FOIA requests, assisting with liens (including those stemming from no-fault or worker's compensation claims). Will also assist with UMHS Revenue Cycle issues, including assisting with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reimbursement denials, managing related files, and preparing for appeals- including hearings before an Administrative Law Judge (AU). Will also be highly integral to HSLO's "Attorney on Call" program, which provides on-call advice to health care providers and hospital staff who contact the office with legal inquiries. Assist with litigation management, including medical malpractice, responding to subpoenas, government investigations and FOIA requests and other legal inquiries. Answer calls and e-mails from UMHS health care providers and staff, accurately and thoroughly documenting the issue(s), and either assisting the caller or triaging the call to another HSLO staff member. With attorney guidance and oversight, management of third party reimbursement recovery, including investigation and research related to disputes involving health plans, TPAs, HMOs,and other third party payers such as no-fault and worker's compensation carriers; preparation of related documentation; monitoring litigation activities arising out of recovery efforts. Assist with management of UMHS Revenue Cycle matters, including work on appealing denials from the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS).
