Senior Technology Transfer Associate
The candidate reports to the Senior Director, Intellectual Property. Manages a docket of technologies and has advanced skills in strategic IP assessment and patenting strategies. Prepares new disclosure summaries including conducting preliminary prior art analysis, identifying appropriate licensing associate, and preparing and presenting disclosure reports at regular meetings. Engages in outreach and education relative to JHTV, intellectual property and technology transfer practices. Generates IP landscape for invention disclosures to identify market opportunities. Evaluates inventions for intellectual property protection probability and freedom to operate. Recommends a technology transfer path for new inventions (e.g., patent, waive rights, assign rights to inventors). Is able to evaluate and develop strategy for highly complex clusters of intellectual property. Develops IP protection strategy for inventions retained by the university in consultation with licensing staff, inventors and IP counsel. Implements the strategy. Directs patent counsel in the preparation, filing and prosecution of US and international patent applications. Tracks and fulfills filing obligations for licensed technologies in portfolio. Provides oversight and management of the patent budget for assigned cases. Establishes and maintains contacts with industry IP managers, patent counsel and representatives at other academic institutions. Makes recommendations but not the final decision concerning investments and patent strategies. May direct the activities of IP staff or a function.
