Job Description
System Architect
Minneapolis, MN
As a Systems Architect, you will have the opportunity to work with a Senior Systems Architect to extract requirements create technical designs for our customer. Work in a fast-paced, active environment where there are 10 - 15 projects ongoing at any one time. When necessary, help perform server build implementations according to project specification as a Sr. Systems Engineer. You would work full time with Verizon, but dedicated to a local Fortune 500 company located in Minneapolis with business critical, production eCommerce systems. Technical design and implementations could include:
Physical Server builds
OS installations
Linux (primarily RHEL)
Solaris
AIX
Application Server installations, configuration and support
ATG Dynamo
JBoss
IBM Websphere (WAS, WCS, MQ)
Tomcat
Apache
Automation Scripting
Chef / Puppet
Python / PERL / Ruby
Virtualization Technology / Cloud Experience
Cisco UCS
VMWare ESX
Required Experience:
8 years UNIX/Linux Systems Architect or Systems Engineer experience
Bachelor's Degree preferred
Experience with eCommerce, transactional platforms
Physical system experience (rack/stack, cabling, hard drive replacement, hardware upgrades)
OS installation tools (kickstart, jumpstart)
Strong scripting skills (Perl, Ruby, Python, Java, Bash, Jython, TCL)
Web server experience (Apache, iPlanet, IIS); Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking
Working knowledge of HA concepts (load balancing, clustering)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong willingness to learn and take on technical challenges beyond current skill level
Desired Experience:
Middleware application server design and architecture
Oracle ATG Dynamo, JBoss, Tomcat
J2EE design or development experience
Virtualization technologies - VMWare, Solaris LDOM, AIX LPAR, Cisco UCS
Database experience - Oracle, DB2, MySQL, Postgres
Other UNIX skills - DNS, User Management, package management, OS patching
Experience in client-facing technical work
Ability to articulate multi-tier application architectures
Ability to prepare technical reports, client presentations, design documentation, and manuals
