The Systems Administrator is responsible for installation, maintenance and support of operating systems throughout the company's infrastructure. These systems are to be managed by a new Puppet automation infrastructure that the Systems Administrator will develop and implement under the guidance of existing staff. The Systems Administrator will in turn train and guide other team members across the organization in the use of Puppet. The company objective is to build out the automation infrastructure, with the goal of bringing all systems, toolsets and administration tasks under puppet control where practical. The nature of the position entails frequent new and varied work situations with a high degree of complexity. There are established and well-known procedures, although the individual must be able to operate under moderate supervision.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform routine systems maintenance; including provisioning, installing, configuring and patching operating systems, application and database software, manage file systems
Configure and address alerts from commercial, open source and internally developed monitoring tools
Coordinate with other team members for hardware and software configuration, migration and upgrade efforts of varying size and complexity
Technical support and general troubleshooting of systems, applications and databases in a 24x7 data center
Some data center work (rack/stack/cabling) may be required
Off-hours on-call support during specific timeframes
Required Skills
Command-line administration skills required
Understanding of software development practices (SDLC) and software languages preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Required Experience
Minimum 3 yrs professional systems maintenance experience supporting a Linux or Unix environment required
An Associate's degree or higher preferred.
Experience with the Puppet Labs automated systems management system required
Shell programming and automation experience required
Experience with configuration management using source control and change management methodologies required
Experience supporting Unix or Linux systems in production required
Experience with open-source and/or commercial monitoring tools required
Experience with VMware virtual environments preferred
RHEL administration experience preferred
Experience with Agile IT management and DevOps concepts preferred
Experience in installation, maintenance and support
