Job Description: Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

* Typical experience is 6 years with Bachelors or 4 years with Masters. Experience may be used in lieu of education.

* Moderate or higher level of experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to swiftly learn and become proficient with related technical writing and editing software.

* Strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as oral and written communication skills are required for the position.

* Candidate must have the ability to research engineering data, technical manuals, and utilize subject matter experts, team members, and established processes to complete technical authoring under very general supervision.

* Candidate should have experience in proofing/editing, interpreting engineering documentation to include wiring diagrams and schematics.

* Ability to evaluate customer reviews and incorporate review comments into technical documentation.

* Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, and weekends and support on call status for 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days a year.

* Must have and maintain a valid U.S. passport, accept customer furnished quarters for a period up to 120 days away from primary work location and comply with mobility requirements such as chemical warfare training and immunizations that may include anthrax and smallpox.

* Must meet medical requirements for worldwide travel.

* Must have an active Secret DoD clearance with ability to maintain that clearance.

* The ability to obtain and retain Special Program access clearance within 365 days from submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Degree in related field strongly preferred.

* Competency in desktop publishing applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Arbortext Content Management Systems, or similar products desired.

* Knowledge of Mil Standards (Air Force, Navy, Army) and S1000D and the ability to quickly learn and become proficient in related software used for training development, project tracking, and presentations.

* Experience as a qualified mechanic, technician, or operator in a technical field such as aircraft, ship, missile, or space systems highly desired.

* Blueprint reading and basic engineering/drafting knowledge desired.

* Experience with Technical Publications authoring, publishing, or TOMA/TODO functions strongly preferred. Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
