Technology Transfer Associate
The candidate will report to the Intellectual Property Director or a Senior IP Manager. Will identify and protect inventions resulting from university research. Through interactions with faculty members, staff, students, and outside counsel, manage patent prosecution and disclosure-related tasks. Prepare new disclosure summaries including conducting preliminary prior art analysis, identifying appropriate licensing associate, and preparing and presenting disclosure reports at meetings. Engage in outreach and education relative to University's Technology Ventures, intellectual property and technology transfer practices. Generate IP landscape for invention disclosures to identify market opportunities. Evaluate inventions for intellectual property protection probability and freedom to operate. Recommend a technology transfer path for new inventions (e.g., patent, waive rights, assign rights to inventors). Develop IP protection strategy for inventions retained by the university in consultation with licensing staff, inventors and IP counsel. Implement the strategy. Direct patent counsel in the preparation, filing and prosecution of US and international patent applications. Track and fulfill filing obligations for licensed technologies in portfolio. Provide oversight and management of the patent budget for assigned cases. Establish and maintain contacts with industry IP managers, patent counsel and representatives at other academic institutions. Make recommendations but not the final decision concerning investments and patent strategies.
