Pay Rate: up to $95,000 (might pay more), depending on experience
This client is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of interior doors and entry door systems.
The System Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of UNIX systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational goals, enabling staff, team members and customers.
This individual ensures system integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Conducts system wide audits for compliance with established standards and best practice configuration guidelines. The candidate who fills this position will be working with other team members, providers and customers to design implement and support new and existing infrastructure solutions. The quality of these solutions will impact revenue to the business so attention to detail is a must have trait for a candidate to possess.

Ensure that the aspects of the architecture are driven by the business imperatives/client requirements of the organization and that the requirements driving the overall architecture are managed consistently and effectively
Assess requirements and present System Engineering based recommendations that are in line with the strategic vision for the enterprise and wider best practice
Ensure that the systems architecture is consistent and coherent, developed at an appropriate level of detail, and that changes are controlled so as to maintain consistency
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Maintain HP-UX servers and operating systems including patch levels and system upgrades
Maintain the UNIX-based applications including patch levels and upgrades
Monitor system performance and tune as necessary
Configure and manage the UNIX backups
Configure and manage disaster recovery systems
Create and maintain formal technical reference documentation
Troubleshoot systems issues in a variety of environments
Provide top tier customer service to internal and external customers
Contract and Vendor Management
Provide off hours support as needed
Create UNIX shell scripting and automation
Knowledge of SAN Infrastructure and configuration
Aid in the support of EMC Vmax, DMX, Clarion and Cisco storage technology
Qualifications:
Education:
(Preferred) BS in Management Information Systems or equivalent
Required Skills and Necessary Experience:
5 years as a Unix Systems Engineer
Ability to diagnose and action complex technical environment and complete Root Cause Analysis
Change Management experience
Excellent Problem Management skills
Desired Skills:
Visio experience
SAN storage experience - Clarion, DMX, VMax
Performance metrics reporting
