Comprehensive Health Management
The Veterinary Technician is responsible to assist the Veterinarian with clinical oversight veterinary center at an on-site residential facility. Functions as the liaison with Case Management and any other on-site vendors. This position is responsible for ensuring contractual requirements and client expectations are met at the on-site residential facility. Reports to the Veterinarian.
All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHSi is recognized.
This position is for the night shift, 6PM – 6:30AM
Comprehensive Health Services Inc. (CHSi) is assisting in the humanitarian crisis caused by Hurricane Harvey by supporting a disaster relief shelter in Port Arthur, TX. This shelter will house a large number of evacuees who have been displaced by Hurricane Harvey and subsequent flooding.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Examine animals to detect nature of diseases or injuries.
Assist with Inoculation of animals against various diseases such as rabies and distemper.
Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis.
Operate diagnostic equipment such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment
Advise handlers regarding sanitary, feeding, and general care necessary to promote health of animals.
Educate handlers/trainers about diseases that can be spread from animals to humans including Zoonotic diseases
Train and supervise workers who handle and care for animals.
Establish and conduct quarantine and testing procedures that prevent the spread of diseases to other animals or to humans, and that comply with applicable government regulations.
Perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments and maintaining business records
Inspect and test animals to detect the presence of communicable diseases.
Plan and execute animal nutrition
Assist with inspection of animal housing to determine cleanliness, adequacy and temperature control
Restrain animals as appropriate
Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or a current Veterinary Technician Certificate from an accredited university.
2 years of experience in veterinary services
2 years in maintaining animal health records and health certificates
1 year of experience with animal tracking systems
Ability to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal and communication skills
Proficiency with computer and common office equipment, as well as with MS Office products
Clean Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) or child protective services check
Clean criminal background check
Immediate, last-minute travel within the U.S. may be required if located outside of shelter location.
This is a night shift position with working hours from 6:00pm to 6:30am
Flexibility is required due to potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Visual acuity required to complete paperwork and computer work
Able to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance of staff activities
Able to withstand changing environmental conditions with weather (rain, lightning, and winds)
Able to withstand and manipulate through construction areas, sports fields, etc.
