Pasadena, CA — Oklahoma has added about 22,500 jobs since last year due to a vastly improving energy sector which has also triggered an employment growth rate of 1.4%, according to a newly released report. The 2008 Oklahoma Economic Outlook report also stated that the employment growth rate in the state is the sixth highest among all states and 1% faster than the national average employment rate. EmploymentCrossing, the world’s leading job portal, seconded the claims of the report, pointing out that its database includes a fantastic count of 11,102 unfilled, active job openings in Oklahoma alone!
''This is a great sign of improvement on various fronts for the state,'' says Harrison Barnes, the founder and CEO of EmploymentCrossing. ''Oklahoma now has a more stable housing market, less credit problems, and decent job growth, and these improvements are all reflected in EmploymentCrossing’s statistics.''
The updated 2008 Oklahoma Economic Outlook report also showed that the first quarters of the year have been relatively slow for Oklahoma, but overall the state’s economy has remained strong, as only the wholesale and retail sectors are expected to face job losses, while the consumer-related services sector and the marketing sector are seeing an increase in jobs. Most critically, it is the energy sector which has fueled employment figures by 6,000 to 7,000 jobs, according to the report’s estimates.
Tulsa, the state’s second-largest city, posted sharp gains in average personal income, although its employment rate was similar to the weak national average. Oklahoma City also registered a strong rise in average personal income this year. The report also found that with personal income totaling $128.5 billion in the first quarter, the state ranked roughly in the middle of the country at 28th, owing much of that income to its strong energy industry.
''Cities in Oklahoma are doing well thanks to the energy industry, and fewer credit problems should ensure smooth sailing for the state in the coming months,'' adds Barnes. ''Meanwhile, EmploymentCrossing has a record number of jobs posted in its database, which is testimony to the fact that Oklahoma is a good place to live in today.''
The top job titles, according to the number of jobs in Oklahoma posted in the site’s database, are:
Information technology jobs (739 jobs)
Engineering jobs (968 jobs)
Banking and finance jobs (608 jobs)
Customer service jobs (476 jobs)
Accounting jobs (476 jobs)
''There are so many jobs out there, and we want to find them all,'' Barnes says.
