New Green Jobs Will Help Revive the Crumbling Job Market, Believes EmploymentCrossing
January 07, 2009    |   PDF version  PDF version
Pasadena, CA — EmploymentCrossing, the world's leading job board, has discovered that the economy of the future will depend largely on companies which are currently introducing environmentally friendly products and services. EmploymentCrossing believes that the best hope of reviving the crumbling job market lies in the increase in green jobs. Fortunately, the job portal is already up and running with the task of posting new green jobs every day.

Hemlock Semiconductor Corp., based 80 miles away from Detroit, announced a $3 billion expansion that could add 500 more jobs to its current workforce of 1,400, reports Los Angeles Times. This follows a report and recent study from the University of Massachusetts that a $100 billion investment in a green recovery could create 2 million jobs within two years; with a large percentage of the jobs in retrofitting.

Various cities have already joined the bandwagon of going green. In Arizona, for instance, signs of change include a green chamber of commerce, an upcoming green-job fair, and a major green-building conference. Big companies such as U-Haul International Inc. and the Dial Corp. are researching ways to become more earth-friendly. Trucking companies are switching to more-fuel-efficient rigs too.

''Blue-collar and white-collar jobs will have to give way to green jobs if the nation is to effectively face the present sluggish economy and energy crunch,'' says Harrison Barnes, CEO of EmploymentCrossing. ''Though EmploymentCrossing has posted a record number of jobs in recent weeks, we find that job seekers today are more and more interested in having an environmentally-friendly job, and hence insist on working with green-certified companies.''

Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota, recently announced a ''Green Jobs Investment Initiative,'' that includes proposals related to waivers for companies going green, for the 2009 Minnesota Legislature. The proposals includes tax-free incentives — 50% of the tax credits would be focused on green job projects that promote the state's renewable energy goals — and conservation credit incentives to expand the production and infrastructure for bio-methane, solar, and other renewable energy projects. Speaking about the future of green economy, a recent survey of 3,259 hiring managers by CareerBuilder.com and Harris Interactive found that 13% of the companies plan to add green jobs in 2009, compared with 10% in 2008

''The future economy will be a 'clean-energy economy,' where the focus will be centered on energy efficiency through the use of renewable resources and alternative fuels. The path there will not be easy, however, as massive green investment and innovative market policies need to be wedded to greener job opportunities that will help in reviving the present economy, this year,'' adds Barnes.

EmploymentCrossing provides instant access to a comprehensive pool of job listings based on a job seeker's particular area of interest. Unlike other job-search and career sites, EmploymentCrossing weeds out spam and jobs outside one's niche, allowing the job seeker to search efficiently and specifically. The job board posted more than 200,000 jobs last week and has redoubled its efforts to seek out green jobs for all job seekers in the coming days.

EmploymentCrossing consists of a comprehensive collection of over 2 million researched job openings in its database, including job openings from all Fortune 500 companies. To learn more about EmploymentCrossing, log on to www.employmentcrossing.com.

The job site allows any job seekers with an Internet connection, free access. It aggressively advertises the job site to bring as many job seekers as they can to each job, so employers are flooded with applications and will pay to post again.
