Aviation Specialist Jobs

An aviation specialist is usually responsible for providing the Air Traffic Control (ATC) with strategic planning, staffing, research, and acquisition. Understanding functional requirements of the En Route systems like data processing, and data display that include flight data, surveillance, weather information, etc., may be required for such jobs. An aviation specialist should be familiar with establishing requirements for the automated transfer of ICAO flight plans and the eventual transfer of radar hand-offs between US, Mexico, and Canada. Preparing documents, reports, meeting minutes, and action items which reflect the results of meetings, also form part of duties for an aviation specialist. Defining/ optimizing system requirements under development or being deployed may also be required in such positions.

An aviation specialist job requires at least a bachelor's degree along with several years of experience. A person with knowledge and experience in FAA and ATC operations will be considered as an added benefit for an aviation specialist position. Knowledge of using current display workstations at air traffic control towers is also an advantage. Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in MS Word and MS Power Point, are desirable.
