The advertising industry is one of the most valued industries in the business and service sector of today. Just about everybody uses advertising to draw potential customers and service users to their products or location. Selling advertisements has been a major business for at least the last one hundred years and there is nothing on the horizon that will change that.

Advertisements appear printed in newspapers, magazines, on billboards, as coupons and flyers, as audio and visual on radio and TV, and now even on your computer through the internet. Companies pay a lot of money to advertise their products and services. Advertising companies provide the service of advertising. They search for customers in the business world. Their advertisement sales people contact businesses in the community and introduce them to their advertisement possibilities.

Advertisement sales jobs are usually commission based. Many advertisement sales people are self employed. Often they start their business as a side job just to earn some extra money. For many this side job becomes their major income, even if they never planned on it. While at the start they have to find business owners and go talk to them they find that after a couple of years their job becomes a lot easier and business owners come to them.

Advertisement sales men need to be well organized. You cannot sell the same space twice. Some still do this on the side with paper and pen and written contracts. These are mainly some older people who have worked this way for the last forty years and kept doing this as a side business to add something extra to their retirement benefits. The modern generation of advertising sales men does things a little different. This is the age of computer technology and computer programs help with every aspect of the job. Not everybody who works as an advertising salesman is self employed. Most advertising salesmen work on commission however for at least part of their paycheck.

Some advertising companies serve as a walk-in business and they have their offices in a commercial setting. Potential customers come to their business to discuss all the advertising options the advertising companies have to offer. Again, computer technology plays an important role here.

Anybody with average intelligence can make some money as an advertising salesman. The big bucks are made however by those who received training and schooling. A business education is a good start. A marketing degree is a lot better. Needless to say, you need to be computer savvy nowadays if you want to compete with the pros in the field. Creative insight will work to your advantage. Good salesmen are also good talkers. Good communication and social skills will help you sell what you want to sell, to whom you want to sell, and at what price you want to sell for.

Some advertising sales men only make a little bit on the side, but those who put their heart and soul in it can make an advertising sales position into a very lucrative and very rewarding business and a main income with up to six figures. It is good to work for an established advertising company as an advertising sales man, but with the right input and just some minor investment you can make things work for you as an independent salesman.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
