MySpace has launched a new karaoke feature called MySpace Karaoke which debuts two years after MySpace parent company Fox Interactive bought the karaoke site kSolo.com. MySpace co-founder and president Tom Anderson said MySpace and karaoke are a natural fit. Recordings can be displayed on one’s MySpace page and receive ratings from friends. The feature is slated to be active only within the US beginning April 29, while its international debut date has still not been finalized. While MySpace Karaoke doesn’t currently have a video option, Anderson says that such an option is in the offing and that it will include a split-screen duet feature. Users only need a microphone to sing into, as music and lyrics will be provided by the site itself. There are also many effects available to alter the sound of the recordings. Asked why MySpace decided to add karaoke, Anderson said, “It is in part because music is so popular on our site…But also because karaoke is such a fun and social thing, which is what we’re about too.”
